Great Benevolence Temple (Dabeisi)

This large temple, located at 26 Tianwei Road in Hebei District of Tianjin, is the best-preserved monastery in the city. It has two sections, the old and the new. The old temple was rebuilt in 1669, the eighth year of the rule of Emperor Kang Xi. Several hundred Buddhist statues made of bronze, wood, iron, and stone from the Wei, Jin, and Southern and Northern dynasties to the Ming and Qing dynasties are on display here. The new temple was built in 1940 and contains a number of Buddhist halls.
