Nanguan Muslim Mosque

Traditional architecture is heavily influenced by Arabian style in this complex rebuilt in 1981 with funds donated by local Muslims. The main building of the Nanguan Muselim Mosque, covering an area of 10,000 square meters, is elevated to a height of 26 meters. The great hall upstairs is large enough to hold an audience of 1,300. The ground floor consists of a bathroom, a small prayer hall, a prayer hall for women, an Arabic school, the imam’s residence and the reception center. The middle section of the main building is topped with one big and four small domes which are painted green and each sports the sculpture of a crescent moon. A fountain 15 meters in diameter lies in front of the main building, which is flanked on either side by a 30-meter-high ceremonial pagoda. The entire complex looks elegant and majestic with its well-knit plan and elaborate ornamentation. Thronged with Muslims during religious and traditional festivals, and opened to Muslims and tourists from foreign countries, the mosque has become a major tourist attraction in Yinchuan and even the entire Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
